Onkyo TX-SR800 THX Select 7.1-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver Review

This is Onkyo’s best product for the price and it doesn’t disapoint! THX only gives certification to the best built recievers which usually cost serveral thousands of dollars. I have this one and love it. In order to maximize the benefit of this system you have to hook up a decent speaker system. I used Bose direct/reflect system and makes for a ‘theater like’ experience. This unit is worth every cent!!

Onkyo TX-SR705S 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Silver) Review

This was my first avr purchase. Overall, I really like this system. I am shocked to learn that AVR software is so outdated (like ms-dos) and no company has come out with better setup software and ease of use. I guess that is why AVR’s are not as mainstream as they should be. The sound passed through this unit is very good. I have a Orb speakers hooked up to this unit which sound amazing. Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.
Onkyo TX-SR705S 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Silver) Feature
- 100 Watts/Channel at 8 ohms (FTC)
- Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS Neo:6, THX Select 2 and THX Surround EX Decoder
- HDMI video up-conversion with DCDi technology
- HDMI V1.3 repeater (3 in/1 out, 1080p compatible)
- RS232 Port for Audyssey MultEQ XT Interface Control
Onkyo TX-SR705S 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Silver) Overview
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a mid-range home theater A/V receiver that packs the TX-SR705’s amplification power and audio processing capabilities. It might be comforting to look to its THX Select2 certification for confirmation, but as the THX engineers have seen, there’s a lot more here than just efficient amplifier drive ability and all-round home theater performance. The TX-SR705 breaks new ground in the mid-range category by featuring not only the lossless audio codecs, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, but also the most advanced version of HDMI. And with a wealth of other class-leading features – 1080p video processing, Audyssey’s MultEQ XT technology for room calibration and advanced processing devices from Texas Instruments and Cirrus Logic – nothing has been sacrificed in the making of this remarkable home theater component.

Onkyo UPA1 Dock For iPod And iPhone Overview
It is as simple as you can get. The UP-A1 iPod iPhone dock has just a single universal cable to connect it to your compatible Onkyo receiver. This one cable sends music and video from your docked iPod or iPhone to your system, and the same connection draws power from your receiver for the UP-A1, so it can automatically charge your player without requiring a separate AC adapter.

Inspired by the "creation of an Audiophile Music Server" blog, I have a user-friendly music server that I control from my main listening room. With my Sony PSP as a remote control, I can play, pause, skip any song on an album in my iTunes library.
Mixed Overjoyed with this new musical freedom of humor and access to hi-fi, the family broke into two spontaneous dance events on weekends. Toddler_o_Geek loves Jaxx.
I never listen to music is no longer in my listening room. MyCD collection is still in the bottom two drawers our TV stand, if I want an album, never at hand. I tried in my iTunes library through your Xbox. After waiting for Xbox to boot, then XBMC, rotate the whole video system (projector, AV receiver), then wade through my long playlists was too much a hassle. I needed a better system: access to all my music through the most important hi-fi.
Audiophile and Stereophile prefer Slim Devices Squeezebox 3 ($ 299) withBolder Cable Mods (~ $ 700) to pass through a fine DAC (Musical Fidelity PSU XDACv3 more ($ 1400)) for the server higher fidelity music. Add all these devices and make $ 2,500.
I did not want to spend money for this project (as my wife can remember, "We have no money."). I had to reuse the equipment that I heard. The following list shows the equipment end-to-end music server for my base, you need to hi-fi system.
Features hotel chain:
Before Remote: SonyPSP Firmware V 2.7 with Web User Interface Cover Buddy
According Music Server Hardware: Mac Mini, 300 GB USB 2.0 external HD, Linksys Wireless-G Router
Third Music Server Software: iTunes, Synergy, Cover Buddy
Fourth AirTunes: Airport Express Toslink optical digital output (optical Monster Cable with mini plug adapter) (Stereophile review recommending digital output)
Fifth digital-analog converter (DAC): AV receiver Onkyo TX-DS989
Sixth Preamp: Rogue Audio Magnum 99 Preamp
TheSystem allows access to all my music through my hi-fi without a computer noisy in the room.

Toddler_o_Geek and I danced until bedtime Sunday night.
We started with Gnarls Barkley (will not moving) and quickly switched to Futureheads. The pogoed, chased my daughter. I made the mistake of pogoing her, instead of only one side, then went into full chase mode – I was dancing (a series of spastic kicks, arms waving and jumping like a frog), and shouted for all the room as quickly as possible to navigate the furniture. We went through the "first love"Bathtime (I was freaking her with my expert lip sync at this point).
Can I enjoy dancing because I wonder if the music sounds good or not. I did not go up, find a new CD in my closet, and then throw the CD playback and download the new. My musical desires are answered, press Left, Up, Right, Up, X. I check my entire music collection through my Sony PSP and Cover Buddy on my Mac Mini. Practical and fun and obscure audiophiliaOptimization. My first experience with this server, the music was not so funny.
I mentioned in my last post that wiring Taddeo Digital Antidote, while great for CD playback, maimed the signal AirTunes. At first I thought the flow of AirTunes fundamentally flawed (we are dealing with MP3 and AAC to your hi-fi). Then I had the good fortune of one of the best prepared to listen to Steve Albini albums, Bedhead's Transaction De Novo. The first track "Dig," begins with long dronesBass notes. When I heard the song many times with headphones and original CD I knew the scores decay smoothly. oscillate with the Taddeo in the decay of the bass signal. This apparent discrepancy in the song I had to follow the path of the signal Taddeo, who is a direct link between my Onkyo AV Receiver and my pre Rogue. Without the Taddeo the bass line cleared along with the rest of the instruments and voices.
Well certainly the cleanest wayAirTunes to my listening room from the speakers, I sat listening to serious music.
I ripped Shellac's At Action Park to Apple Lossless (I had to rename the album so the songs are not mixed with my old MP4 AAC files of the same album). I heard "My Black Ass", first through AirTunes Apple Lossless, AAC, and then through my CD player, Pioneer DV47ai.
What I heard:
* Apple Lossless: Tight bass, good image depth, separation of instruments, cymbals splashy, nosibilants could follow bass line, guitar annoying Steve Albini (his words) is not difficult
* AAC monotonous-128: Something more like the vocals and bass drum kits in the same pictorial space flat, basin controlled more or less live, attenuated shrubs, some hiss
* CD: Better separation of instruments – vocals and guitar before the bass drum kit with the right rear, no perceptible hiss, snare pool close and real to appear in the 3D space of the image as saucers when takenrods, bass drum kick
The differences can also do more with my CD lossless DAC (Burr Brown chip 192K) than the Onkyo WRAT DAC than the differences between the original CD compared to Apple. (This album still sounds better on vinyl.)
I hate it, if the signal is lost AirTunes my CD signal, the second a much larger investment. It 's amazing, is so close. The neck and neck race makes you wonder what determines the music that comes to your ears – CASNervousness, cables, static, hard shaky? The Tweaker reported disadvantages of the CD then drag in the direction of the music server sound quality.
Convenience is the biggest advantage of a music server. Once set up properly (hopefully you have good ideas go now) AirTunes high-end electronic rock.
If you want your music server to deliver better quality signal, the better to rip all your CDs in Apple Lossless registered, buy a good DAC (like Musical Fidelity X-DAC V3 are available with orEverything was sweet spot in your digital processor) and relax in your.
If you bounce all night with your wife and daughter, dancing to your MP3 and AACS, Sony PSP Cover Buddy remote control in hand.
The first is a solitary experience. The family had more fun with them.

Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

This review is written by my son as he uses it more than I do and can give a better review for it. His words are as follows:
“As long as the THX audio decoder is not really important to you, this is one of the best and cheapest receivers you can get your hands on.
Facts before opinion – you can find cheaper receivers than this, but nine times out of ten, their HDMI inputs only offer video passthrough (meaning you have to hook up a separate cable to get audio). But with the receiver also acting as a switcher and repeater, it will carry both audio and video through HDMI; therefore no muss, no fuss!
Another feature is the Auyssey Calibration System. Hook up your speakers without running ACS, they sound like they’re muttering; after you run it through ACS…your speakers will really come to life! After you run ACS and let it save its settings, you can tweak some of the speaker settings later if you wish. Believe it or not, while this may be advertised as a 5.1 receiver, it actually supports 7.1 speakers! This will be proven when you run the ACS.
As for audio formats, it supports from the standard Dolby Digital to Dolby TrueHD, from standard DTS to DTS-MasterHD. Say you own a Blu-ray title like Predator 2 that supports DTS, it will switch to DTS-Master HD, but that’s if the disc is programmed to do so. But if you have a movie that does standard DTS but supports Master HD, then you can do the switch and the receiver will kick in. Case in point, I have Batman Begins on Blu-ray and though it has Dolby Digital enabled by default, I switch to TrueHD through the in-movie menu and the receiver uses that format instead.
Gamers rejoice! Onkyo has created audio modes for gamers in mind. They are categorized in four sections: Action (Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo, Ninja Gaiden 2, etc.), Rock (Rock Band Guitar Hero, etc.), RPG (that’s self explanatory), and Sports [for all you Madden players out there,
]. The only drawback I have to this is if you want to switch off the game modes and you’re also using Dolby, you have to keep pressing the mode buttons until you get Dolby Digital again. I just wish they made it so you can select either of the four modes or have a “Mode Off” option. But that’s a minor quibble. My system is loud at volume level 30 so I leave the modes off.
Many people will complain about heat radiating from the receiver, but that’s to be expected as it performs audio, video, and processing responsibilities. Thus it’s recommended you give at least six inches of room above the receiver to properly ventilate.
As for the Zone 2 feature, if you do use this and have extra speakers hooked up to this and you play both zones at the same time, you will drop from 5.1 to 2.1 in Zone 1, but if you’re just listening to music, that’s no problem. For those playing games, watching movies or sports, this can be a problem.
Warning: Now those of you who have 4 ohms speakers, the receiver can utilize them; however, you MUST go into the receiver’s settings to specify their ohms, otherwise you can damage the speakers and/or the receiver! I recommend doing so before you connect your speakers to the system. If you have 6 ohms or greater, don’t sweat it.
Here is the set-up as I have rigged it and all devices connected to the receiver are all using HDMI only: Onkyo TX-SR507 receiver, Yamaha NS-SP1800 5.1 speakers, Samsung BDP-1500 Blu-ray player, a DVR from my cable company, and my Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Ed. console.
So there you go, so much receiver for so little money. Onkyo has always had a reputation as being anywhere in the top three of recommended receiver brands and this product proves that Onkyo continues to retain its place.”
That’s my son’s review. Now if I can only convince him to give up his Home Theater system so I can have all to myself…;-)

Onkyo TX-8222 50 Watt Stereo Receiver Review

I actually bought two of the Onkyo TX-8222 Receivers. One is used in the large group room for the children’s program at church where it is connected to two in-ceiling speakers. It works well for what it is used for.
The one I bought for home sounds good except that it just doesn’t have the bass level that I would like. Perhaps my speakers are to blame. The receiver is hooked up to a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers and a pair of two-way Sansui speakers from my college days. I don’t have an qualizer so I really can’t make very many adjustments to the sound. It can produce plenty of volume. I’d like to buy some better speakers to see if that will improve the bass at all.
Onkyo TX-8222 50 Watt Stereo Receiver Feature
- Power Output – 50 Watts RMS per channel (2 channels) (8 ohm, 20 Hz-20 kHz, FTC) / Dynamic Power up to 105 watts per channel
- 6 A/V inputs
- Outputs for up to 2 pair speakers
- Digitally-tuned AM/FM with up to 40 programmable station presets
- Compatible with DS-A1 optional iPod Dock for playing your iPod through the TX-8222

Onkyo 50 Watt Stereo Receiver TX8222
Onkyo TX-8222 50 Watt Stereo Receiver Specifications
While new technologies come and go, the fundamentals of competent receiver design remain constant. It is best to think of it in simple terms: a power supply, an input stage, a driver stage, and an output stage that all combine to amplify signals without any loss in quality. The current that actually drives the loudspeakers comes from a power source via the receiver’s power supply. You can never underestimate the importance of the power supply, and all other audio processing functions cannot rule over good solid amplification. This is the direction Onkyo has taken with the TX-8222. Built for those people who value the benefits of time-proven amplification design, the TX-8222 takes core Onkyo technology—and an array of features you’ll actually use—to bring you a no-nonsense stereo receiver that will deliver audio and radio signals with agreeable quality.
Key technology Features:
RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music.
WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology): Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That’s the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today’s digital age, you’ll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path – perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.
